MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY PT 1
This course introduces students to the language of medicine. You will gain an understanding of the way medical terms are formed and how to build medical terms using combining forms, prefixes and suffixes. In addition you will learn the structure, function and basic anatomy of various body systems and about the diagnostic, procedural, laboratory, pathological, surgical and pharmacological terms and abbreviations associated with each body system.
Course Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:

  • Identify and define the four-word parts used to build medical terms
  • Pluralize medical terms
  • Name the parts of each body system covered in this course and discuss their function
  • Define combining forms used in building words that relate to each body system
  • Identify the meaning of related abbreviations
  • Name the common diagnoses, laboratory tests, and clinical procedures used in treating each body system
  • Define the major pathological conditions, surgical terms, and pharmacological agents related to each body system
